Robert Charles Weissert
Oct. 28, 1931 – Feb. 24, 2024
When Bob Weissert walked into a room, you knew he was bringing his joy for life and his love of people right along with him. Whether he was stepping into church, a family gathering or a crowded dining room, you could see his smiling face and his eagerness to share time, good conversation and happiness with people he cared about most. Bob loved his family, his friends, and especially Marlene Weissert, his constant, lifelong companion, and wife of 70 years.
Both in failing health, Marlene passed away on Feb. 20, 2024, and Bob joined her in Heaven just four days later, leaving his family with mixed feelings of sadness, joy, and awe, knowing that God was bringing them right back together to continue their long love story, free of pain and disability.
Bob was a lifelong golfer, a Steeler fan through and through, and he always held onto a dream that another Pirate dynasty was right around the corner. But the competitions he may have enjoyed the most were the board games he played with Marlene, his daughters, sons-in-law and five grandchildren. A strong competitor, Bob loved winning, but most of all, he loved the laughter, the time together and the memories he carried away.
Born in Pittsburgh to Myring Blanche and Norman H. Weissert, Bob graduated from Shaler High School in 1949 and went on to serve in management roles at Bell Telephone and later with AT&T, before retiring in 1986. He loved Jesus and served God as a lifelong member of Elfinwild Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, a deacon, a trustee, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the church choir, right alongside his beloved Marlene.
Bob is survived by his daughters Sandra (Chip) Minty, of Norman, Okla. and Andrea (Jay) Knauer, of Allison Park, Pa. His five grandchildren are Jordan Minty and Christa Minty as well as Kayleigh (Jeff) Layden, Aaron (Ashley) Knauer and Matthew (Molly) Knauer. Bob’s great grandchildren are Riley Layden, Annalese Layden and Summer Layden.
