Marlene Weissert Obituary

Marlene Marie Weissert
Feb. 26, 1932 – Feb. 20, 2024

Some people were born to create, others were born to achieve and then there are those who were born to serve. The world lost a true servant on Feb. 20, 2024, when Marlene Marie Weissert passed away to be with Jesus in Heaven. Born Marlene Marie Hickler on Feb. 26, 1932, to Violet and George Hickler. She grew up in Etna, Pa., loving people, enjoyed life, and never passed up opportunities to lead and to serve.
The majorette from Etna High School went on to marry Robert C. Weissert on Aug. 21, 1953. Married for 70 years, Marlene and Bob were blessed with two daughters, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She dedicated her life to raising her daughters, and helping with her grandchildren and then watching her great grandchildren begin their lives.
But when she was not serving her family, Marlene was in her community, teaching Sunday school, working in her church, helping the elderly, doing volunteer projects, or looking out for her friends and neighbors. Rest, days off, or personal time were rarely on her agenda. Born with a nurturing spirit, her focus was always on the people around her, doing what she could to make sure they were cared for and happy. When friends were struggling, she was there to pay a visit or bring a meal and she understood the importance of a kind word, a cheerful conversation, or a greeting card to lift a spirit and remind people they are loved. She will truly be missed by everyone who was blessed to know her.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Bob, of Cabot, Pa.; her daughter Sandra (Chip) Minty, of Norman, Okla. and Andrea (Jay) Knauer, of Allison Park, Pa. Her five grandchildren are Jordan Minty and Christa Minty as well as Kayleigh (Jeff) Layden, Aaron (Ashley) Knauer and Matthew (Molly) Knauer. Marlene’s great grandchildren are Riley Layden, Annalese Layden and Summer Layden.
